Here at the Grove Theatre we are dedicated to the engagement and participation of all people in the arts within our community and further afield. Theatre Education at Grove Theatre is for anyone who would like to take part; all ages and abilities. We frequently offer show related workshops, insights in various aspects of theatre and other one off projects, as well as the regular term time classes for young people. Come and have fun discovering what you can do!

Grove Academy & Mini Academy:

A part time performing arts school open to all aged 4-18. The Academy provides all round tuition in acting, singing and dancing. Students of the Academy learn exciting theatrical skills whilst gaining confidence and making new friends. The Academy students will also get the chance to perform every year on our west end sized, professional stage.

Taught by industry professionals, classes run:

Grove Academy, 8 to 18 year olds
Group one: Saturdays 9.45am – 1.15pm (term time only)
Group two: Saturdays 2pm – 5:30pm (term time only)

Grove Mini Academy
Mondays 4pm – 5:30pm (6 – 7 year olds; term time only)
Wednesday 4pm – 5:30pm (4 – 5 year olds; term time only)

The Grove Theatre’s education programme strives to provide access and opportunities for all to participate in the arts.

Youth Theatre

Grove Youth Theatre has been running since the venue opened in 2007 and continues to provide young people with an opportunity to learn a variety of theatre and stagecraft skills. With a friendly and relaxing atmosphere it is the perfect environment in which to develop confidence and encourage teamwork, as well as teaching more specific skills such as mime, voice and speech, movement, physical theatre, masks, script work and improvisation.

We currently offer two classes covering 9 – 13 years and 14 – 19 year olds, giving children the opportunity to progress further whilst remaining comfortable within their age group.

We now offer the opportunity for students in Youth Theatre to complete Arts Award in Bronze & Silver Awards.

Workshops:

Throughout the year our Education team offer a variety of workshops ranging from one-day to week-long, show-specific to skill-specific. Every workshop offered aims to build confidence, encourage interaction and develop understanding of, and appreciation for, the arts.

We currently cater for ages 6-16, and are continually working towards offering something for everyone.

Grove Production Project:

Since opening in 2007, the Grove Theatre has staged a summer musical project each year that aims to give young people and opportunity to gain experience in, and an understanding of, the process behind a musical production. The project also helps participants strengthen communication and problem solving skills as well as building confidence and making new friends – all whilst having fun!

In 2015, the Summer Project will be returning to the theatre bigger and better under the name of Grove Production Project with The Wizard of Oz. This name reflects a change within the structure of the production; the project has grown to provide opportunities for not only young actors, musicians, singers and dancers but also those wishing to have a go at set building, lighting, sound, props and wardrobe.

Grove Production Project is an exciting annual experience offering up to 100 young people the opportunity to work with a professional artistic, creative and technical team to stage a musical production on a west end sized stage at the Grove Theatre.
