Did you know that we run a DBS checking service?

You may be aware that these days, DBS certificates are increasingly required when working with children and young people. The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions on more than four million people every year.

Their role is to prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. An individual cannot apply for an enhanced check by themselves so recruiting organisations work with applicants who need to get the check. This is then sent to DBS through a registered body.

Bedford Creative Arts works with Disclosure Services to perform the background check, enabling you to present your documentation to us, a trusted, local organisation, rather than risk valuable documents getting lost in the post. You complete the online application then we check your documents to verify your identity – it couldn’t be more simple.

Why should I be DBS checked?

Often schools will specify that they only want to work with those people who hold a DBS certificate. It fills teachers with confidence that you take your work with young people seriously. Going the extra mile to hold this certificate really demonstrates that you are responsible, and that your work within the community is a legitimate part of your profession. Other organisations such as Museums and Galleries also see this certificate as a big bonus too, so it well worth obtaining an Enhanced DBS check.

Also, did you know that getting your DBS certificate is a big step towards becoming one of our Verified Providers too? Find out more about becoming Verified in The Culture Challenge Toolkit, free to download.

What will it cost?

The cost of the service is £74 which provides you with a DBS certificate valid for three years. There is also an option to renew your certificate for  £13 a year thereafter.
