Digitial artist sought for Bedford Borough Libraries ‘Imagination!’ project

The Imagination project is an Arts Council Funded scheme to encourage more young people aged 10 – 18 into the library and to recognise reading as a creative and enjoyable activity that can spark the imagination. Bedford Borough Libraries are looking for a creative practitioner to work with them on this Summer’s ‘Imagination!’ project.

Bedford Borough Libraries are looking to work with a creative practitioner to devise and deliver one workshop, repeated on two days in two different Bedford libraries, to help children explore storytelling and creativity through digital media. These workshops should be inspired by the children’s favorite books (as a springboard to creativity rather than as as strictly narrative response).

They are particularly interested in hearing from artists or practitioners who can offer high quality but simple animation, audio or film making techniques. In addition to this, they would also like to see people who can help children make the most of their own smart phone and/or other devices (iPads, etc.) The library has access to 15 microbit kits that can be used by the artist if required. The resultant piece needs to be able to be shared both with the young person themselves in a suitable format and uploaded to the Imagination blog as an individual piece of digital artwork. If possible a legacy piece that incorporates all artworks (such as a slide show, a soundscape or short film) would be welcome, but we are happy to discuss the feasibility of this with the artist.

Bedford Library would like approximately 30 children to take part in each venue. They are mindful that workshops may be better run for smaller groups and so are open to running short workshops with smaller numbers or a long for larger numbers workshop in each venue. This is open to discussion.

The workshops are to take place on two of the following days (please include your availability in your expression of interest):
Wednesday 1st August 2018 (9.30 am – 1.00 pm)
Monday 6th August 2018 (9.30 am  – 1.00 pm)
Wednesday 8th August 2018 (9.30 am – 1.00 pm)

The fee for this is £200 per day and £250 for prep and equipment so a total of £650 plus travel at 45p per mile.

To submit your expression of interest, including a brief description of your idea, a link to your Culture Challenge profile (or website), your availability for the dates above and a confirmation that you can undertake the work within the budget stated above, please email Ailene at aileneg@bedfordcreativearts.org.uk by noon on Monday the 21st May 2018. Please note this opportunity is open to non Culture Challenge providers and is funded by ACE via the library service and selection. Contracting and payment will be undertaken by the library service.
