Trestle Theatre Company

Trestle is a mask and physical theatre company, who has been touring shows and participatory programmes since 1981. We offer a range of prescribed and bespoke drama workshops, which can be linked across primary and secondary curriculums and arts, health and wellbeing work. We are particularly passionate about using our masks to teach about drama, but also using our masks to teach through drama.

In addition to providing programmes for students, Trestle offers robust INSET and CPD opportunities for educators. We co-lecture on Middlesex University’s PCGE Secondary Drama and English, run our own MA in Drama Education (Middlesex), and frequently establish CPD programmes for teachers (in schools and at Trestle Arts Base).

We are experienced in offering workshops that incorporate Arts Award, support ArtsMark journeys and are based on the SMSC values, with special emphasis on fun and engaging opportunities for all learners of any age.

Trestle sells several sets of masks which can be purchased. As part of the set, teachers receive educational resources to support the incorporation of masks into the classroom. Furthermore, Trestle staff are on hand on the phone, email or for additional workshops for schools requiring support in using the sets successfully.

Trestle is based at Trestle Arts Base in St Albans. School trips to the venue can be booked, where students can visit the mask making department and participate in a Trestle mask or physical theatre workshop.
