MK Gallery KS1 & 2 expedition to Stowe

Cultural Providers MK Gallery have joined forces with the National Trust to offer five day trips for Key Stages 1 & 2 to Stowe in Buckinghamshire for a cross curricular learning expedition investigating how art and geography connect through the landscape on a grand scale.

Children exploring outdoors at Stowe

Description of the day’s activities

Your group will meet their artist at Stowe and spend the morning working alongside them in the great outdoors. They’ll learn about Stowe’s famous feats of engineering, architecture and artistic vision, and uncover creative ways of observing, experiencing, mapping and recording the landscape – returning to school with fresh ideas for outdoor creativity.

After lunch, they’ll journey back to MK Gallery where their artist will introduce works of art, helping them to learn about and compare the work of different artists; analyse and compare the historic gardens at Stowe to the urban environment of Milton Keynes; and discover how artists have sought to understand, map and transform the landscape.

There will also be the opportunity for pupils to obtain an Arts Award Discover qualification and engage in a wide variety of activities which have National Curriculum outcomes.
