Job opportunity: Art tutor required

The Bedford Parent Led and Community Education (PLACE) group are looking to recruit an artist in residence to deliver weekly sessions to their young people.

This innovative community of home educators come together for classes and they are looking for an excellent visual arts generalist to undertake a varied programme of art-and-craft delivery classes with them. This is a term time only role for a freelance artist who is looking for a regular and long-term commitment. PLACE have a huge range of their own art materials (all documented and carefully packed in numbered boxes) available for use at the sessions – stored a short distance from the workshop venue which is in Putnoe, Bedford. In addition, PLACE youngsters are encouraged bring their own art boxes and art supplies to each session. Specialist art supplies can be requested for particular sessions if needed (although always in advance and in discussion with PLACE). There are two groups which alternate fortnightly, younger “Art Start” children from roughly 4 years to 10 years, with many adults staying, the second “Young Artists” group made up of youngsters from 11 years old to around 13 years. Sessions run from 9am to 10.30am for both groups.  A rough session plan before the start of each term is required for planning purposes. PLACE have termly themes and the artist is expected to use this theme as inspiration for at least a few of the sessions each term.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic and friendly learning community. The successful applicant will be paid £30 per hour paid on invoice. You will be subject to the usual safeguarding checks and will be expected to have your own public liability insurance. To submit your interest please contact June McDonald directly on info@place-programme.org at your earliest convenience and by the 8th September at the latest with a short email outlining your experience and with some well-chosen examples of your work with young people (either as a link to your website or as attachments). Sessions begin on the 20th September.

This opportunity is directly recruited by PLACE and is open to excellent and experienced practitioners both on the Culture Challenge website and off.
