We provide educational activities and courses to schools and colleges across the area in broadcast radio and media with nearly all of our activity resulting in student generated content being broadcast and uploaded to our listen again service online.

Our main opportunity is our Broadcasting for Schools which sees us working at the school every week for around 1 ½ hours working with a cohort to teach them about Radio / Media and also plan and record a show to be broadcast on the Schools Radio Network and uploaded on the schools very own show page on our website.

We can also provide bespoke activity sessions, from a few hours to a full day in topics including: Radio Advertising, Radio Drama and Radio Broadcasting.

One of the most exciting activities is the Advert Challenge, were we task group/s of students to discuss a client brief, creatively develop a radio advert with scripting and sound effects and record it. This activity can also be developed with a ‘dragons den’ style pitch to the “client” or SRN staff / school tutors about what they did and why.

All of our activities develop communications skills, team and group working and are fantastic for developing confidence.

For schools that have their own radio stations, we can provide support and training to staff to get the most out of the schools own station, and other services such as music databases and streaming.

Martin’s sessions have been informative, engaging and fun for all of our pupils and the progress they have made over the weeks has been very easy to see (and hear!). The neat structure to each session allows pupils to understand different aspects of radio production and then put their learning into action immediately. Martin is extremely knowledgeable about the industry and is able to work with all pupils to develop their skills and confidence in presenting. I was very pleased with the programme and look forward to working with Martin again in the future” – Martyn Essery Deputy Headteacher The Reach Free School
