Competition: MK Gallery Young Architect 2018

Are you an aspiring architect?

Cultural Provider MK Gallery is currently undergoing a major expansion, due to reopen in 2019 with more exhibition space, facilities for a cinema, performances and events, along with dedicated community resources and a new cafe. They are encouraging young people, aged 4 – 19 to be involved in the development of this new space by getting involved in an exciting competition.

They are inviting young people to be a part of the City Club, currently a new virtual space for everyone to enjoy which will become a real building for the community when MK Gallery reopens next year. They are looking for young people to help them visualise what this building might look like and invite them to design their City Club building in either 2D or 3D. If you are interested in how buildings are designed, or how spaces can respond to the needs of a community, this is your chance to get involved in shaping the development of a real building in your own community.

For teachers and home educators, this is an exciting opportunity to explore the discipline of architecture, a unique combination of science, maths, history and art and can inspire children’s involvement in effecting real life change.

Entrants will be in with a chance of seeing their own idea professionally modelled using Computer Aided Design as well as it being featured in the MK Gallery Young Architect 2018 Project Space exhibition in July 2018. You may also win a unique opportunity for your class to work together with an architect from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

In the first instance, please visit the MK Gallery competition website where you can find all the information you will need to plan and organise your entry. You can also contact the competition organisers directly by registering your interest and emailing youngarchitect@mkgallery.org or calling 01908 676 900. The closing date is Friday 1st June 2018 so you have plenty of time to begin planning your entry.

Good luck!
